This page explains what I do with your details. It is written in plain English and kept short on purpose.

I am Carl Mckie, a wildlife and nature photographer, trading as Carl Mckie Nature Photography. I decide how your details are used, which makes me the data controller under UK data protection law.

The Field notes email list

When you join the Field notes list on this website, I collect:

- Your email address (required)

- Your first name (optional)

- A record that you ticked the box agreeing to receive the emails, and when you did

I use these only to send you my monthly email: a story from a morning in the field and a first look at new prints. I also send one welcome email when you sign up.

My legal basis is your consent. The consent box is never ticked for you, and you can change your mind at any time.

I do not sell your details, share them with other businesses for their marketing, or use them for anything else.

Leaving the list

Every email has an unsubscribe link at the bottom. One click removes you from future emails. You can also reply to any email, or write to me at the address above, and I will remove you. If you would like your details deleted completely, ask and I will delete them.

Who handles your details for me

My website and my emails run on Wix.com, which stores the details you give me and sends the emails on my behalf. Wix acts as my processor and has its own privacy policy at https://www.wix.com/about/privacy. Your details may be handled by Wix outside the UK, under the safeguards Wix describes there.

Other things you might send me

- If you use the contact form or email me, I use your name, email address and message only to reply to you. I keep the conversation for as long as it is useful, for example to deal with an order or enquiry.

- If you order a print, canvas or cards from the shop, I use your name, delivery address and order details to take payment, print and send your order. Prints are produced and dispatched by Printify, who receive your delivery details for that purpose. Payment is handled by the checkout provider and I do not see your full card number.

- If you buy the Wild Oxfordshire download, that purchase is made through Payhip, which has its own privacy policy.

- I keep order records for as long as the law requires for tax and accounting.

How long I keep your details

Field notes list details are kept until you unsubscribe or ask me to delete them. If you unsubscribe, I may keep your email address on a suppression list, so that you are not added again by mistake.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask me to:

- Tell you what I hold about you and give you a copy

- Correct anything that is wrong

- Delete your details

- Stop using your details for email, which you can also do yourself with the unsubscribe link

- Move your details to another service, where this applies

Email me at carlmckie7@gmail.com and I will reply within one month. If you are unhappy with how I have handled your details, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. I would appreciate the chance to put things right first.
